Andrea Dean couldn't get with the "easy-breezy" attitude some of her friends had about turning fifty. She was barely keeping her head above water, trying not to drown as she approached this midlife milestone. In her inspirational memoir Fifty Days to 50, Dean documents her inner exploration—and how she learned to cross the fifty mark with pride and confidence.
Dean celebrates the fifty days leading up to her fiftieth birthday in a series of selfie-style images coupled with bits of her story. Each day, she looks inside herself and creates an image to fit the mood. She covers themes like needing to reboot, being tired of being Superwoman, counting her blessings, and connecting with her feminine power.
Dean's collection is as much about celebrating the power of being a woman as it is about emerging from a midlife crisis. She pays homage to motherhood, female independence, body issues, and other joys and concerns shared by women. It's fun and easy to read—and packed full of powerful photographs that speak directly to the heart.
If you're a woman approaching fifty or going through other transitions in life, let Fifty Days to 50 help guide you through.Fifty Days to 50 A MiniMemoir of My Midlife Crisis Andrea Dean 9780692665480 Books
Full disclosure: I danced, drank wine and talked for hours with Andrea and her posse one brilliant night at her home. I knew in my heart would be a 5 star book before it was born. Andrea is braver than she admits. She names my/her/our terrors, from minuscule ounces of belly fat to becoming our mothers...and names those present moments when the joy of be-ing and birth-ing ourselves is enough. We are all our own work of art in progress...Andrea brilliantly documents 50 days of hers in an invitation to each reader to become conscious of our own, daily, self-creations.

Fifty Days to 50 A MiniMemoir of My Midlife Crisis Andrea Dean 9780692665480 Books Reviews
I LOVE THE BOOK! It's funny, it's poignant, it's inspiring. I read it in one sitting, then broke down and cried after I put down the book. Andrea laid it out bare naked, with no pretense, the "stuff" that a lot of us deal with in our 50's or even earlier. It allows me to look at and feel my pain, hurt, anger, fear and frustration that I didn't want to look at. It made me see more clearly what I am dealing with. In the end, it is very inspiring to see that Andrea allowed herself to break through a lot of the shackles that we consciously and unconsciously impose on ourselves. It makes me feel hopeful. I can do it too )
Ms Dean's mini-memoir is a delightful account of a woman's reckoning with her aging body and changing priorities leading up to her 50th birthday. Told as a series of daily blogs and images, it is an honest reporting of the daily emotional weather system that travels through the author's interior life. The reader is given a portrait of a superwoman and ubermother who has spent her entire life working, working, working to make a name and place for herself in this world. Any woman who has ever faced her sixth decade feeling depleted and disillusioned - and tired! - can appreciate the author's candid exploration of her body, behaviors and choices. I found her musings on motherhood particularly tender, and think that every woman who has had a mother or been one herself will respond to the emotional content of those entries.
I was disappointed in the quality of the images in my edition; however, I found that after looking at the first dozen or so images of Ms Dean, I would rather let her clear and strong writing shine through, anyway! This book is for any woman interested in exploring her own aging process and shifting identity with honesty and compassion.
Originally bought the paperback copy and gave me the teaser version well of course I couldn't wait for the paperback so I ended up finishing this in one sitting and gifted the paperback. Good book and very relatable.
Ms Deans memoir is an empowered, funny, vulnerable look at getting to fifty. She Is a brave big hearted woman who has tapped into the internal and external forces that make this journey unique..
Andrea Dean has captured the essence of how it is to transition from "juicy" to dry and back again with grace. Her straightforward and humorous honesty chronicles her brave conquest.
I enjoyed this book. In full disclosure, I know the author and it was fun and interesting to see her creative gifts expressed in this book and learn more about her experience in the journey to 50. I am in my 50's, too, and I could relate to a lot, especially around the shifts and changes and adjustments in the aging process. I appreciated her honesty, vulnerability and directness.
I bought this book after reading part of It. The airbnb I stayed at Hawaii was her house. It was a great great style. Andrea has a eye for beauty..From beauty comes great writing!
